I was born and I grew up in Heilbronn, Germany, a city of about 100,000 in the south-western part of Germany between Stuttgart and Heidelberg.
After high school and after working as an assistant to a photographer for 6 months I studied at the photo school in Munich from 1984 to 1986.
Right after photo school I became a staff photographer at BASF AG, a chemical company headquartered in Ludwigshafen. The Ludwigshafen site alone employed more than 50,000 people then. My work there included everything from documentation, portraits, events and products for PR, internal and external presentations and all sorts of publications, including the annual reports. I took many trips for BASF to Austria, Switzerland, the United States and many locations within Germany.
In 1997 I left BASF and moved to Portland, OR (USA) where I have since been working as a freelance photographer.
I switched to a new profession in 2001 and in 2005 I began working as a software developer full-time.
